Greenwood Village-based Ultrasound AI landed on TIME's 2026 Best Inventions list for software that predicts pregnancy due dates more accurately than methods doctors have used for decades.
The company's product, Delivery Date AI, earned the recognition in TIME's medical and healthcare category, FOX31 Denver reported Monday, Oct. 26. The software analyzes full ultrasound images rather than a handful of manual measurements to forecast when a baby will arrive.
TIME's listing says the tool predicts delivery dates with 30% more accuracy than the 1984 formula still widely used in obstetrics.
Founder and CEO Bob Bunn started the company after his wife, Nicole, suffered 11 miscarriages. Bunn told FOX31 he wanted to give doctors earlier warning signs.
"I thought if I could give the doctors weeks or months of warning as to what's going to happen, then they could potentially change the outcome," he said.
The software received FDA De Novo authorization this year for limited use in the United States. Contemporary OB/GYN reported the clearance date as March 2, 2026, while TIME's listing placed it in February. The clearance covers predicting delivery dates for women who lack early prenatal care and do not have an accurate due date, according to Bunn's comments to FOX31.
The FDA decision drew on data from the Perinatal Artificial Intelligence in Ultrasound study, conducted with the University of Kentucky and published in July 2025 in The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, according to Contemporary OB/GYN. Researchers trained the AI on more than 877,000 ultrasound images from 5,714 pregnancies.
The cloud-based system works with existing ultrasound machines and returns results in seconds, Contemporary OB/GYN reported. Outside the U.S., the technology is already in use in Brazil and Chile, according to the company's website.
Bunn told FOX31 he hopes to expand the software's approved uses as research continues.
"What I hope eventually is that we can reduce the significant premature birth rate here and around the world," he said.
The Bunns now have five children. Nicole Bunn told FOX31 the family wants to offer hope to others who have faced similar losses.
Ultrasound AI also won the Audience Choice award at the WHIS2026 MedTech Innovation Showcase in Boston, the company said on X on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
